Chronicle Volume 1944

1944 is the year of "total war". Not only Europe, but the whole world is caught up in the maelstrom of war events. In June 1944 l, with the landing of the Allies in Normandy, Operation "Overlord" begins, opening the Second Front in Europe. On July 20, Hitler is to be killed by a bomb. The assassination attempt by Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg was the most significant coup attempt by the military resistance during the Nazi era. Hitler, mentally and physically a wreck, uses the attack as an opportunity to launch a comprehensive purge against the resistance and Nazi opponents. Cultural life is practically shut down, only radio and cinema - with films such as "Die Feuerzangenbowle" and "Große Freiheit Nr. 7" - are intended to strengthen the will of the Germans to persevere.
