Chronicle Volume 1948

In 1948, the alliance of the victorious powers of the Second World War had already broken down. The Cold War between the world powers USA and USSR overshadowed world politics. In Eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia was the last country to become a communist-led people's republic based on the Soviet model. For Western Europe, the granting of Marshall Plan aid by the United States of America meant an opportunity for economic reconstruction and
political stabilization.
