One of the most successful US authors, Ernest Hemingway won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. He drew inspiration from many real-life adventures and travels, including as a war correspondent. Between 1931 and 1939, Hemingway lived in a house in Key West, Florida, where he wrote some of his greatest works. He also often traveled from there to go deep-sea fishing or sailing in the Caribbean. His boat "Pilar" is depicted next to his portrait on this 50-State Program bill. Also featured are the Miami skyline, a drawing of a space shuttle, Florida's motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year of its admission to the union.
