Before his time as president, John F. Kennedy was already known as a war hero after saving the life of a comrade in the Pacific during World War II. In 1961, at the age of 43, he became the youngest president elected in US history. Born in Massachusetts, Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. This note from the 50 US states program features JFK, his brothers Robert and Edward, a Minutemen statue, the seal of Massachusetts, the Boston skyline, the C ostom H ouse T ower, the Latin state motto "Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem" and the year of admission to the union. Due to its coastal location, Massachusetts is also called "The Bay State".
