Souvenir note 100 Dollar Minnesota - The Land of 10,000 Lakes

Minnesota-born Judy Garland rose to fame in 1939 at the age of 16 with her performance of the song "Over the Rainbow" in the film "The Wizard of Oz." Among many awards, in 1961 she was the first woman in history to receive a Grammy for Album of the Year. A portrait of her can be seen on this banknote from the 50 U.S. states program. It is also decorated with Minnesota's skyline with the Third Avenue Bridge, a Minnesota welcome sign, the Star of the North, an American red pine, the state motto "L'Étoile du Nord" (French for "The Star of the North") and the year of admission to the union. Minnesota is also called the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" because of its more than 14,000 bodies of water.
