Souvenir note 100 Dollar Missouri - The "Show Me State"

Before Mark Twain became one of the most successful American writers and his stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn had a lasting impact on US literature, he worked as a pilot on a Mississippi steamer. Like a character in a novel, he grew up in Missouri, although his real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. This note from the 50 US states program features a portrait of Twain, an image of Tom and Huckleberry, the steamer "Missouri" on the Mississippi, the skyline of St. Louis with the Gateway Arch monument, the keelboat of the Lewis and Clark expedition, Missouri's motto "Salus populi suprema lex esto" (Latin for "the welfare of the people is the highest law") and the year of admission to the union.
