Chief Red Cloud is one of the most famous opponents of the US Army and is best known for his victory in the Battle of the Hundred Slain in 1866. His likeness was erected as a statue in Pioneers Park in 1935 to represent all of Nebraska's tribes. The "Smoke Signal" sculpture can be seen next to a portrait of Red Cloud on this banknote from the 50 US states program. It is also adorned with the "Chimney Rock" rock, a corn cob, the state motto "Equality Before the Law" and the year of admission to the union. As one of the largest US corn producers, Nebraska is also called the "Cornhusker State".
