Souvenir note 100 dollars Rhode Island - The Ocean State

At the age of 12, Ida Lewis first came to the aid of capsized sailors. In 1879, she officially became the lighthouse keeper of Lime Rock in Newport Harbor, now known as the Ida Lewis Rock Light. She saved the lives of at least 18 people and was also called the "Bravest Woman in America." This note from the 50 U.S. states program is adorned with her portrait, a depiction of her lighting the lamp, the Pomham Rocks Light in East Providence, the World War II memorial in West Warwick, the state motto "Hope," and the year of its admission to the union. Because of its maritime character, Rhode Island is also called "The Ocean State."
